What is the Hadith On Qiyam Al Layl’s Virtue?

Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) recommended praying Qiyam al layl in many prophetic narrations. He said:

“When one of you gets up at night to perform [optional night] prayer, let him start Salah with two short Rak`ahs.” (Muslim).

“The best month for observing fasting after Ramadan is Allah’s month observing fasting after Muharram, and the best Salah after the prescribed Salah is Salah at night.” (Muslim)

“Whosoever performs Qiyam during Ramadan out of faith and being hopeful of Allah’s reward, will have his past sins forgiven” (Al-Bukhari and Muslim).

What are the Benefits of Qiyam Al Layl?

There are many benefits of Qiyam al-Layl such as:

1. Closeness to Allah

Praying Qiyam al layl brings closeness to Allah as it builds a strong relationship with Allah.

Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) said:

“The righteous used to perform Qiyamullail as a habit before us and it brings us closer to Allah while also expiating our bad deeds.”

2. You Worship While Others Are Sleeping

When you perform Qiyam, you choose a time to worship when the others are sleeping or busy with worldly matters.

Moreover, you leave your bed to seek Allah’s satisfaction and forgiveness {They abandon their beds, invoking their Lord with hope and fear, and donate from what We have provided for them} (As-sajda, 32:16)

3. Qiyam al-Layl is The Best Prayer after Obligatory Prayers

Qiyam is the best prayer you perform after the obligatory prayers. Prophet Muhammed:

“The most virtuous prayer after the obligatory prayers is Qiyamullail”.

(Tirmidhi)

4. Gaining success

Performing Qiyam al layl is one of the reasons for gaining success in life and the hereafter as Muslims get higher positions.

Allah says:

“And rise at the last part of the night, offering additional prayers, so your Lord may raise you to a station of praise}

(Al Isra, 17:79).

5. Qiyam al-Layl is One of the best times for dua

Allah grants his worshipers one of the best times for dua through praying Qiyam al layl in the last third of the night.

Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) said:

“Verily in the night there is an hour, no Muslim reaches it, asking Allah for goodness from matters of the Dunya or the Akhirah, except that Allah gives it to him, and that is in every night”

(Muslim)

6. Forgiving sins

Muslims who perform Qiyam in lailat Al-Qadar gain forgiving sins from Allah. Prophet Muhammed said:

“Whosoever performs Qiyam (optional night prayer) during Lailat Al-Qadr (Night of Decree), out of faith and being hopeful of Allah’s reward, will have his past sins forgiven.”

(Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

(Ibn Majah)
