Connected curriculum

What Learning Areas Are Covered in the Word-by-Word Quran Reading Course

Each learning area below builds on the one before it. Students begin wherever their current level allows. Nobody repeats what they already know, and nobody skips a skill they still need.

  1. Arabic Letters and Their Correct Sounds

Complete beginners start with the Noorani Qaida, learning all 28 letters, their shapes in different positions, and their correct sounds. This foundation suits young children from around age five and adults starting from zero.

  2. Harakat Sukoon and Shaddah on Every Word

You learn how Fatha, Kasra, Damma, Sukoon, and Shaddah change a letter's sound. Teachers practise these marks on real Quranic words, so the jump from Qaida pages to the Mushaf feels natural rather than sudden.

  3. Joining Letters Into Complete Quranic Words

You will practise joining two, three, and four letters into full words such as ٱلْحَمْدُ and رَبِّ. This stage builds the habit of reading each word as one unit instead of spelling letters slowly one by one.

  4. Long Vowels and Madd Letters Held for the Right Length

Students learn when Alif, Waw, and Ya stretch a vowel and how long to hold it. Getting Madd right early prevents the rushed or uneven reading that many self-taught learners find hard to correct later.

  5. Difficult Letters for Non-Arabic Speakers

Letters such as ع, ح, ق, and ض have no exact match in English. Teachers use mouth-position guidance and repeated listening drills until you produce each sound clearly, without mixing ح with ه or ق with ك.

  6. Core Tajweed Rules Applied Word by Word

Once reading is steady, you begin basic Tajweed within each word: Noon Sakinah rules, Qalqalah, and heavy and light letters. Rules are taught through the words you read, not as abstract theory to memorize separately.

  7. Stopping Signs and Correct Pausing in the Mushaf

Students learn the Waqf symbols printed in the Mushaf and how to stop and restart correctly. This skill protects the meaning of each verse and gives both children and adults confidence when reading longer passages aloud.

  8. Meaning of Frequently Repeated Quranic Words

Alongside pronunciation, you learn the meaning of common words such as رَبّ, قَالَ, and ٱلَّذِينَ. This light vocabulary layer turns reading into understanding and prepares motivated students for our Quranic Vocabulary and Quran Translation Course.

Course outcomes

What Students Achieve With the Word-by-Word Quran Reading Course

Progress in the Word-by-Word Quran Reading Course is visible and measurable. These are the outcomes most students reach, Insha'Allah, with regular classes and short daily revision between lessons.

Reading Directly From the Mushaf Without Spelling Letters

Students move from sounding out letters to reading full words and short verses smoothly. Most beginners reach this point after finishing the Qaida stage, then read Juz Amma pages with steadily fewer pauses and corrections.

Clear Pronunciation of Every Arabic Letter

You will pronounce throat letters and heavy letters from their correct articulation points. Teachers track these sounds lesson by lesson, so persistent mistakes with ع, ح, or ض are identified and corrected early.

Applying Essential Tajweed Rules Accurately

You will apply Noon Sakinah, Meem Sakinah, Madd, and Qalqalah rules while reading, not only while answering questions. This practical accuracy is the base for further study in our Tajweed Course or Tarteel classes.

Understanding the Words You Recite Daily

Students recognise the meaning of key words in Al-Fatiha and the short Surahs they pray with. Salah becomes more focused, Alhamdulillah, because the words are no longer only sounds but familiar, meaningful phrases.

How a class runs

Structure of a Typical 30 Minute Word-by-Word Quran Reading Class

Every session follows the same clear rhythm, so learners always know what comes next.

Warm-Up and Revision of the Previous Lesson

The class opens with the student reading the previous lesson aloud. The teacher listens for weak words and repeats them together, so revision, or Muraja'ah, is built into every single session.

New Lesson Introduced Word by Word

The teacher reads each new word slowly, and the student repeats it immediately. Difficult letters are isolated, practised alone, then placed back into the word until it is read correctly and without hesitation.

Correction and Tajweed Practice

The student reads the full new portion independently while the teacher corrects gently. One or two Tajweed points are highlighted per class, which keeps corrections focused and stops students from feeling overwhelmed.

Homework and Parent or Student Feedback

The teacher sets a short daily reading task, usually five to ten minutes. Parents of younger students receive brief feedback on progress, while adult learners discuss their own goals for the coming week directly.

After every class

What Students Achieve After Every Class at Word-by-Word Quran Reading Course

Each student leaves Word-by-Word Quran Reading Class with a clearly defined portion they can read correctly, a short list of words to practise, and one Tajweed point to focus on. Small, consistent wins like these keep motivation strong week after week.
