Al-Sajdah (السجدة) means “the prostration” or “adoration” and the Sunni Islamic sajdah is to have your seven body parts touching the ground: the two palms of the hands, the two knees, the forehead, the tip of the nose, and the tips of the feet. This relates to the masjid’s naming because it is a place where people perform sujood.

Surah Sajdah’s name is taken from the 15th verse in the surah which mentions: “… fall prostrate and hymn the praise of their Lord”. The surah was revealed at the initial stage and very beginning of the prophet’s residence in Mecca. Surah al-Sajdah spoke of the Tauhid (no God but Allah), the Akhirah (The Hereafter), and the prophethood (of Muhammed PBUH) to clear any remaining doubt in the hearts of the people.
