The Best 10 Islamic Stories For Kids

In this article, we will narrate 10 of the best Islamic stories mentioned in the Quran and Sunnah. These stories are suitable for kids and adults. We will mention the source of the story and comment on the lessons learned behind it.

1. Abraham (PBUH) & The Idol-worshippers

The Quran narrates the story of Prophet Abraham (PBUH) with the idol worshippers in various Surahs such as Surah Maryam and Surah Al-Anbyaa’. 

The story starts when Prophet Abraham (PBUH) tried to convince people to worship Allah (SWT) only and leave away worshiping idols. He counted Allah’s favors and reminded them of His unlimited power. Allah is The Creator, The Sustainer, and The Powerful. On the Other hand, Idols cannot harm or benefit anyone rather than being Gods themselves. 

However, people rejected his call and made fun of him. Prophet Abraham (PBUH) wanted to practically teach people that idols cannot even defend themselves. He went to their idols, destroyed them, left the biggest one safe, and hung the ax on him. 

When people found out what had happened, they called Prophet Abraham (PBUH) and he replied: “The biggest idol is the one who did it, go ask them if they can reply!”

This made them wonder and think they were false. However, they insisted on their shirk and aimed to punish Prophet Abraham (PBUH) by putting him on fire. 

Allah (SWT) saved him and made the fire cool for him where he got out of the fire safely and miraculously by the will of Allah (SWT)!

2. Solomon (PBUH) & The Ants

Prophet Solomon (PBUH) was a great king of a great kingdom. He had a great army that consisted of many soldiers of humans, jinn, animals.. etc. 

One day, prophet Solomon and his army were walking in a valley of ants. When they got near, one of the ants called upon the other ants to escape into their homes as Prophet Solomon’s army would destroy them!

Prophet Solomon (PBUH) heard and understood her call. He smiled at her words and ordered his army to keep away from the ants’ valley. Prophet Solomon then prayed to Allah (SWT) and praised Him for His blessings, saying:

“My Lord! Inspire me to ˹always˺ be thankful for Your favors which You have blessed me and my parents with, and to do good deeds that please you”

(Surah Al-Naml (Ants): verse 19)

Learned Lessons:

• Allah (SWT) has favored Prophet Solomon with a special ability to understand animals and different creatures.
• Muslims should be Merciful to Allah’s creatures no matter their size.
• We should praise Allah (SWT) for his favors.

3. The Boy And The Magician

Once upon a time, there was a tyrant king who had a magician. The king used the magician to reinforce his state and support his oppression by terrifying people. However, the magician became too old and needed a clever boy to teach him the magic to replace him at the king’s palace.

The magician found a smart boy and chose him for that place. He started teaching the boy magic lessons on a frequent basis. The clever boy went to the magician daily and on his way, he found a monk who had a great knowledge of Allah (SWT). The boy used to sit with the monk daily on his way to the magician which made him late and punished.

The smart boy got confused between the two men; the magician and the righteous monk. The magician was a disbeliever who used magic to oppress people while the monk was a righteous man who spoke to him about Allah (SWT).

After a time, the boy knew the monk was right and he believed in Allah (SWT). The boy became righteous and called people to Allah (SWT). He prayed to Allah to cure a blind man and when he was cured, the boy told the man that Allah is the one who cured him and the man believed.

The king knew of the boy’s story and became angry at him. He ordered his soldiers to kill the monk by dividing him into two halves in front of the boy to terrify him, but the boy stood still.

After many failed attempts to kill the boy, the boy told the king if he wanted to kill him, he should gather people, say ‘Bismillah’, and throw him with an arrow from his own pocket. When he did, the boy was killed, but all people seeing the scene believed in Allah (SWT)!

Lessons learned:

• Once you know the truth, you should follow it.
• Guide people to Allah through your good deeds.
• Never underestimate your sacrifice for the sake of Allah.
• Don’t fear people as long as Allah is the only one who holds your life!

4. The Three Greedy Brothers

It was narrated in Surah Al-Qalam that three brothers had a great garden. This garden was full of beautiful green plants, fruits, vegetables, and many goods. 

One day, they sat together and agreed to never give any of the garden’s fruits to the poor and to take all the good to themselves.

The next day, when they reached their garden, they felt they had lost their way! Their garden became dry, wild, and black! 

It was a punishment of Allah (SWT) for their greed and for forgetting Allah’s favors and blessings!

The Learned Lessons:

• Never forget Allah’s favors and blessings.
• Always give the poor what Allah has given you.
• Praise Allah for his mercy and blessings.

5. The Three Men And The Huge Rock

Once upon a time, there were three men traveling together. On their way, they entered a cave to rest and spend their night. However, while they were inside, a huge rock slid down the mountain and clogged the opening of the cave!

One of the three men said: “The only thing that will let us out is to perform dua and request help from Allah with our good deeds” They started praying to Allah (SWT) with their good deeds one by one. 

The first man said:

“O Allah! I had old parents, and I used to offer them milk before any of my children or slaves. One day, I went far away in search of grazing and could not come back until they had slept. When I milked as usual and brought the drink, I found them both asleep.

I hated to disturb them and also disliked giving milk to my children before them. My children were crying out of hunger at my feet but I waited with the bowl in my hand for them to wake up. When they awoke at dawn, they drank milk. O Allah! If I did so to seek Your Pleasure, then save us from the distress caused by the rock”

The rock then moved away slightly from the entrance of the cave!

The second man said:

“O Allah! I had a cousin whom I loved more than anyone else. I wanted to have an illegal relationship with her but she refused. Until one day she approached me to help her with money. I gave her the money on the condition that she would let me have a relationship with her. She agreed and when we went together (for sexual intercourse), she said:

Have piety and fear Allah! and do not do it unlawfully. I immediately left her in spite of the fact that I loved her most passionately, and I let her keep the money I had given to her. O Allah! If I did that to seek Your Pleasure, then, remove the distress in which we are.”

(For kids we can say: The man was decent and modest and waited till Allah (SWT) granted him a good wife for the sake of Allah)

The rock then further moved away!

The third man said:

“O Allah! I hired some laborers and paid them their wages except one of them departed without taking his due. I invested his money in business and the business prospered greatly. After a long time, he came to me and said: O slave of Allah! Pay me my dues.

I said: All that you see is yours – camels, cattle, goats and slaves. He said: O slave of Allah! Do not mock me. I assured him that I was not joking. So he took all the things and went away. He spared nothing. O Allah! If I did so seeking Your Pleasure, then relieve us of our distress.”

The rock totally set aside and they moved away freely!

The Learned Lessons:

• Always seek Allah’s pleasure with your good deeds.
• Pray to Allah (SWT) at difficulties.

6. The Owner of The Two Gardens

It was narrated in Surah Al-Kahf that a man had two beautiful gardens. These two gardens had great palms and grapes which never ran short and had a running river in between.

One day, the owner of the gardens met a friend of his and started showing off and saying in pride: “ I have greater money than you have, and I am more honorable and powerful”

His friend reminded him of Allah and said: “How dare you deny Allah’s favors and disbelieve in Allah who created you out of dust till you became a uniform human being?!”

The man continued reminding the owner of the gardens that Allah is his lord, the creator, and the sustainer of everything, he deserves to be praised and worshiped alone without partners.

When the owner of the gardens rejected the advice and insisted on his shirk, his friend told him that Allah can take away his gardens and punish him by making them as dry and unfruitful as a desert.

At a glance, all the fruits, trees, and gardens were gone! The man regretted what he did and blamed himself!

The learned lessons:

• Don’t show off in front of people.
• Praise Allah for his blessings.

7. The Sacred Kaaba & The Elephant

This story happened in the year of Prophet Muhammad’s birth in Makkah. There was a Christian king of Yemen called ‘Abraha Al-Habashi’ who wanted to shift Arabs from performing pilgrimage in Makkah. He tried to convince them to come and perform a pilgrimage in his Church in Yemen.

Abraha Al-Hbashi had built a great Church in Yemen with the most beautiful state-of-the-art preparations and design. Yet, Arabs rejected his call and refused his offer.

Abraha Al-Habashi became very angry and prepared a strong army of men and elephants to destroy the sacred Kaaba. On his way, he took over many towns and defeated them. When Abraha came near, the Meccan people were terrified and their leader Abd Al-Muttalib (The prophet’s grandpa) ordered them to escape in the mountains.

When Abraha reached Makkah he captured the camels of Abd Al-Muttalib and asked for him. When Abd Al-Muttalib entered, Abraha greatly honored him and asked him if he had any requests. To his surprise, Abd Al-Muttalib asked for his camels and said: “ I am the lord of camels. While the sacred Kaaba has a lord (Allah) to protect it”.

When Abraha and his army pushed the elephant to head toward the Kaaba, he refused. They tried to push him, convince him, and hit him but the elephant didn’t respond. At that time, Allah sent numerous groups of birds holding stones between their claws. They kept throwing Abraha’s army until no one remained! 

Lessons learned:

• Allah (SWT) protects the sacred Kaaba.
• Rely on Allah (SWT) to save you from danger.

8. Qaroon The Rich Man

Once upon a time, there was a disbeliever tyrant man at the time of Prophet Moses (PBUH) named Qaroon. This man was extremely rich to the extent that the keys to his enormous treasury would need very strong men to hold them. 

This man was very proud of his wealth and claimed that he earned his wealth by his own knowledge. He disbelieved in Allah and denied his blessings. 

Many people advised him and reminded him of Allah and others wished to be in his place. When Qaroon insisted on his disbelief, Allah (SWT) punished him by folding the land over him and his property and neither he nor anyone could save him from Allah’s punishment.

That was a lesson for those who wished to be in his place!

The learned lessons:

• Acknowledge Allah’s blessings and praise him for them.
• Wealth should be a drive to do good deeds and give to the poor not oppressing others!
• Never wish for the place of a disbeliever no matter how much his wealth and property.

9. The Trader & His Wives

One day Al-Hasan Al-Basry (one of the most famous Muslim scholars) went to a trader to buy a piece of cloth. This trader wasn’t honest and used to swear and praise his goods to convince him to buy. Al-Hasan left him and bought from another honest man.

After two years, Al-Hasan found the same trader but this time he was honest and didn’t swear or praise his goods. Al-Hasan was surprised and asked the man what had changed his behavior.

The man said:

“ I previously had a wife that when I earn little money, she despises it and if I earn much money, she feels it is little. Then, she died and  I married another woman. This woman used to hold me every time I head for work and say ‘O husband, fear Allah and don’t feed us except halal. If you come with little money, I see it great, and if you didn’t come with anything, I will help you with my yarn’”

The learned lessons:

• If you become honest in your trade, Allah would increase it.
• A good righteous wife has a fundamental role in helping her husband please Allah (SWT).

10. Abraham (PBUH) And Al-Namrood

Prophet Abraham (PBUH) once faced a tyrant king called Al-Namrood. This king claimed to be God. Prophet Abraham went on a debate to prove Allah is the only one true God.

Prophet Abraham said: “Allah is the one who gives life and makes creatures die”. Al-Namrood then called for two prisoners who were sentenced to death. He exempted one and killed the other saying that he can also hold life and death!

Prophet Abraham then said Allah raises the sun from the east and challenged Al-Namrood to get it from the west, but he couldn’t!

The learned lessons:

• Allah is the creator and the only one God.
• If you debate with a tyrant, choose the best arguments.
